Philosophy
We believe that language and communication are at the heart of the human experience. They allow us to relate meaningfully with one another. The goals of our foreign language instruction are to enable students to communicate effectively in the second language, to understand the cultures that support the language, to see connections between language study and other disciplines, and to appreciate what it means to live in a global community.
Middle Level World Languages -- French or Spanish 7th and 8th grade
World Language is a two-year program that must be chosen “before entering seventh grade”. This is the same Level I program that is taught in the high schools. At the end of the two-year program, students will have developed communication skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as understanding and appreciating different cultures and customs. It is important that students learn the vocabulary and structures of the language, which are included in the content, and use that content in a communicative and relevant way. In order to create a communicative model, students will interact frequently and meaningfully in the target language.
It is expected that students who successfully complete the two-year sequence will be enrolled in a Level II course in high school. If you have any questions, you may contact Profe Myers at jmyers@naperville203.org.
