Your student belongs at Jefferson Junior High School! At Jefferson, we foster a learning environment that respects all individuals and ideas. We encourage your student to participate in our various clubs, activities, special school events, intramurals, athletics, and/or performance music groups in order to build their connections to their school community and peers and further develop their sense of belonging to our Patriot community. As a school community, we are future-focused and driven to innovate and support our community in new, unique ways. Our teachers strive to provide learning experiences that challenge our students to think critically, encourage inquiry, and foster the development of the whole student, including the support of their social emotional needs. Academics

Jefferson provides opportunities for students to succeed in many different ways by offering not only traditional classes like Science, Math, Language Arts, Social Sciences, and Physical Education, it provides elective opportunities in the area of Applied Arts & Sciences, World Languages, and Performance Music. There are also classrooms that support students who struggle along with students who excel.

Online Resources for Dual Language

The resources below offer content in Spanish. Some are open access websites; others are paid services that require login credentials. Visit one of the teacher's Canvas pages for the codes/password; authorized users can also visit this Google doc.

Atriuum is our school library's OPAC. This is a link to the Spanish titles found in our collection. It includes both print books found in the Commons as well as access to the eBooks and eAudio books found in OverDrive, our district's online digital library.

OverDrive is our district's digital collection of eBooks and eAudio books. Students can read/listen to titles on their Chromebook or other personal device. Use the Advanced search to access the language filter to bring up the Spanish results.

MyOn is a large library of digital fiction and non-fiction books in Spanish and English. Students can search by genere, interests, reading levels, and language. Students can annotate, make notes, and use read-aloud function. After every book, there is a comprehension quiz, and tracks reading level progress.

Newsela provides variety of nonfiction articles from newspapers, magazines, and encyclopedias in Spanish and English. Students can change reading levels to match their reading abilities. A comprehension quiz at the end of the article helps assess a variety of standards. Students can sign in using the Google sign-in button.

Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos is the optimal beginner’s Spanish language reference tool. The site offers World Book’s excellent editorial content, rich media, and engaging features in Spanish.

Starting in September of 2018, Scholastic Scope began offering narrative nonfiction articles in Spanish with a read-aloud function. Classroom code is needed to access. See instructor or the linked Google form for codes. Scope is also available in EBSCO; all articles can be translated into Spanish.

The Mary Glascow magazines (El Sol, Que Tal) help extend Spanish skills while incorporating Advance Placement test prep for students with two or more years of study. Students need a login and a teacher code to access these resources. Print copies of the magazines are available from the dual teachers.

Colorin Colorado is a website designed for bilingual education. Many resources are available, including a section "For Families" and articles on raising bilingual children.

StudySpanish.com is a website with modules for practicing grammar and other language-learning skills.

Databases with Translation Feature

Many of our subscription databases provide a translation feature which allows the content to be converted into Spanish. This tool is available once an article/result is opened. In some cases, the read-aloud feature will also work in Spanish. All databases require a user name and password outside of the district network. These are found at the back of the printed assignment notebook. Visit the databases page for a complete listing of our resources.
